Day 126

March 11, 2006

After nearly two weeks of either cold, windy weather or snowy weather, the week of March 3rd to 10th was mostly warm and sunny (warm in a Calgary winter sort of way). Temperatures were above zero for the most part. As a result, we have seen more progress this week than in the past few.

Bill and Karen went out Friday afternoon to meet Terry and the guys - the usual coffee and Timbits was supplied. Again, we reviewed a few of the challenges that the boys are having with the logs, but we expressed our appreciation and it was once again re-assuring to see that these guys are taking care and pride in what they are doing!

Saturday, Mel and Trevor, along with Trevor's brother Neil and his wife Tara (who happens to be Mel's best friend Heather's older sister!) stopped in Calgary on their way to sunnier climes. We all piled in the van and we took them to the airport via Crestview Ranch Estates, Lot 6 (and the Cheesecake Cafe).

Rafters on the guest wing are complete and some sheeting is on. The ends are awaiting finish, which involves notching a cedar 2x10 into the gable end logs, diagonally along the roof-line. This will finish off the gables nicely and it's cleaner than trying to cut all the log ends at 9 in 12.
The logs that frame the dormers are almost all installed. The guys seemed disappointed that they were not a mortise and tenon fit and don't really like the brackets but we aren't bothered by it.
The lower purlins are up in the master wing and the gable ends are complete to the point were the next log is the one to be notched out for the ridge purlins (there's two). So we're really close to starting roof on the master wing too!
